At least my sim-self can sleep comfortably. I love how she sucks in her lower lip when she sleeps.
Had my first follow-up with the surgeon today. Got the stitches removed and added a new exercise to my recovery routine. Mind you, they are by no means hard to do and require little effort but should help maintain some flexibility. So I manage to rotate my arm like a pendulum, do "curls" (no weights involved) and walk my fingers forward on the desk to gently stretch my arm forward.
Then she lightened the load on my sling, it had a pad to allow some airflow under my arm but made me look and feel like a linebacker.
The surgery went well. She repaired the tear, shaved a bone spur along with some other bone for added space between the clavicle (?) and the tendon. If all goes well I should start PT in a month.
Week One Lessons Learned:
- It is nearly impossible to sleep upright on my back
- My kids can cook, really, really well
- My kids also know way too much about my drugs
- Daytime TV blows chunks
- It isn't too hard to read in bed one handed with a pile of pillows. It also helped me fall asleep
- Mens shirts are NOT made for women with full breasts, unless they are 'wife beaters'
- After 4 days I finally mastered pulling my pants up and down with one hand
- Having paid time off is not all it is cracked up to be when you cannot do a damn thing
And the biggest lesson learned...rest and do not push too hard
I really miss my online friends and think of you often, especially Beth who keeps me up to date and off the PC when she knows I am pushing too hard.
You do sound like you're feeling better. I laughed at your list of lessons learned!
ReplyDeleteYou are really missed, but do NOT push yourself.
i'm relieved that my sling is lighter (not sure i mentioned that in the post) and knowing things are progressing is a relief too.
ReplyDeletei did have help with the typing too. it would have taken all day otherwise.
LMAO! About the daytime TV, could not agree more, that's why I do Sims Stories during the day, more interesting that the bloody soaps...and the rest.
ReplyDeleteDO take care, don't push yourself.
Great list!
You are so right about daytime TV! I watch it while I put trophies together for my father-in-law... horrible. Unless there's a good marathon or something on I haven't already seen.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see things went well! Take it easy and get that arm back into working condition. ;)
Thanks ~Drew...unfortunately keeping my right arm bent at a keyboard and mouse isn't good either since that arm is also ailing...but I am slowly managing.
ReplyDeleteMao so great to hear from you! You sure are missed. I am taking it easy as much as I can without going stir crazy. Yes daytime TV is awful. I turned on the soaps and felt like I hadn't missed a beat. Same shit, different day.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it all went great with your surgery Gayl!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd it seems like you are doing great with your recovery as well!!!
just take it easy and don't over do it... take as much time as you need!!!
If you can you should go for a walk! Just go out and enjoy the view!!!
I've never had surgery so I don't know how it works, maybe my "take a walk" advise wont make too much sense... maybe you can't even leave your room yet...
Anyway, best wishes, and it is nice to hear from you!
Just keep on getting well!! and don't worry about anything else.
I am so glad things went well!
ReplyDeleteAnd couldnt help but snicker at your lessons learned... Yeah Mens shirts arent for anyone but men... 80) Glad all is going well and glad that you are doing so good! and PT Bleh... 80)
Sounds like its all going well, and the kids doing the cooking is a bonus. I'm sure you could probably forget to tell them when you are feeling 100% again.
ReplyDeleteGlad everything went well with your surgery! I laughed so hard reading this, I was out of work for a while from fracturing my ankle and went through nearly all the same things! (Except the shirts of course!) And you're so right, the paid time off sucks since you can't even enjoy it! Take care of yourself and don't overdo it!
