Ever Changing

I could not decide which of these two shots I liked best so you get both. One thing Beth and I know about our characters is that in order to really get to know them, you need to know their past, their successes, their failures. And in doing that sometimes you uncover things and people you hadn't previously considered but they jump out and grab your attention unexpectedly. Just so with the ladies from Blade's past. We start with the basics, go with the mosaics, and then put the pieces together to form the whole.

The other thing I learned is that bios should be quite organic. Like people. It makes me wonder if it is a mistake to write about them until you have all their bases covered from the past right up until the time frame in which you are telling the story. But then we aren't creating a novel and we clearly bend the rules to suit our needs so maybe that doesn't matter.

And maybe it doesn't matter to anyone but Beth and me but peeling back the layers for people who are not on the canvas shows us a lot. So I guess this is more for us than anything. And bios for these ladies are on our companion blog HERE. But you already knew that didn't you...look for Blade in the left column and the ex-wives are below that. In order of marriage.

I want to do something with this group. Putting all of them in the same room generated some interesting results.

We are working on the next update. Stepping carefully around each section because we are moving into delicate territory.

  1. I found it very fascinating study! Finding out the past of characters is how I get distracted myself, heh.

But it doesn't matter if you're writing a novel or not. It's fun to delve into their past, isn't it? Each of Alex's wives are so much more than just a number. They're interesting characters in their own right even if they aren't a part of the story and may never be a part of the present story. But when writing a serial, you never know who will decide to show up!

  2. Lunar it is totally fun and enlightening to dig into the past. Even if they never appear in the story, knowing them adds another dimension to Blade. I have to admit every time I dig into the past and meet a new character, they grab my attention and work their way into a story in my head. You may see more about these ladies than either Beth or I anticipated.

Thanks for leaving me your thoughts ~ they always mean a lot.

In Perfect Harmony

In June of 2007 I posted my first chapter of Dark December. Since that time, the story has evolved and changed in part through a collaboration that developed and lasted over 4 years. During this time a friendship was forged. Thank you Beth, for unwavering friendship, support, and generosity over these last 4+ years. It has been a journey I will never forget.

In dreams, the sun sets in our eyes
In dreams, we'll never be apart
In dreams, I'll promise you'll never be alone
How much I wish your voice could send me home
